Avoid These 6 Foods And Sleep Better

If you’ve ever had trouble sleeping, it may not have occurred to you that the foods you’re eating could be the cause. Around 60 million people suffer from insomnia and those numbers rise each year. We all need our sleep to properly function. If you are suffering from insomnia and want to get those precious hours of sleep, there are six foods you should avoid before going to bed.

  1. Caffeine 

Obviously, caffeine keeps us up some it’s not wise to consume anything caffeinated before bed. It’s recommended that you give yourself six hours between drinking anything caffeinated before trying to go to sleep.

2. Alcohol 

Many experts state that alcohol disrupts the REM cycle of sleep. This may cause you to wake up halfway through the night and find it difficult to get back to sleep. While some alcohol in the evening may help relax you, particularly a glass or two of wine, it’s recommended that you stop drinking around 8 p.m. so you can get some uninterrupted sleep.

3. Sugar 

Because sugar delivers an energy boost, it’s recommended that you avoid eating it before sleep, as it can cause you to toss and turn.

4. Spicy Foods 

Spicy foods can cause discomfort in our stomachs and sometimes even trigger acid reflux. This will keep you away and prevent you from those much needed hours of sleep.

5. Citrus Fruits 

Any type of citrus fruit is going to cause you to urinate more than other types of foods. This is going to have you waking multiple times at night and disrupting your sleep if you eat them before bed.

6. Pizza 

The ingredients that are common on pizza like garlic, onions, and others will prompt a lot of acid in the stomach that can wake you during the night.
